Le Loop2018 - Stage 17: Bagnères de Luchon to Saint-Sary-Soulan Col du Portet
Possibly the most talked about stage of the whole Tour; 65 km of which 33km were climbing.. and a brand new climb the Col du Portet finishing at 2115m.
I had a good day today, the climb up to Peyreguardes was broadly neutralised in Ride Le Loop fashion and it gave me a chance to ride at a comfortable pace and to build for the rest of the day, a quick descent from Feedstop 1 and onto the Col de Val Louron-Azet and an absolutely steady climb FS2, descent into the valley and onto the Climb up to Soulan which in itself is a monster drag before the Col du Portet... dodging the road laying tarmac trucks in preparation for the Tour and onto the Portet and that sense of climbing up into the sky- steady legs, strong heart and the reward of being substantially up the climb before the fast guys came down.
Frog had a fantastic time; establishing a new PB for FOM (Frog of the mountain) on Strava and pictures are on my Instagram feed michael.leather of frog’s day out.
It has been an interesting few days; I was extremely flat at the weekend and had not been climbing well after some reflection I have consciously increased my calorie intake; consequently my general state of mind has massively improved and so has my climbing the fruits of which were evident today. So easy to lose sight of simple things!
