What is your day to day role at Leathers?
I don’t have a 'day to day' role as no two days are ever the same. There are a number of overarching themes to what I do. I’m a tax advisor by profession so inevitably I work with the team to advise our clients, but I’ve also been involved in various accounting and advising firms over the last thirty years and bring that experience to bear as we grow our business and develop our people.
What makes Leathers such a strong team unit?
Three things; the combination of youth and experience, our commitment to clients and to each other and attention to detail. Or is that four or five things?
Do you think the future for accountancy is to be feared or embraced?
Both. Those accounting firms whose business is built on adding up numbers and who are unable to provide any insight into what they mean should fear the future. Clients will always value clear advice, which is openly and honestly provided. Our future is bright!
A favourite quote to live by?
We have two ears and one mouth so that we can listen twice as much as we speak.
What is the most unusual analogy you have ever used to explain something tax-related?
Whilst I advise on tax, I leave VAT to our expert Alex. That is because most of the other taxes have a common root. It’s a bit like languages. So, if you understand French, you’ll be able to pick up bits of Italian, Spanish and Portuguese etc. VAT however, is like Finnish!
Tell us something surprising about yourself?
I’ve had the same medical operation as the late, eight times married Hollywood star, Elizabeth Taylor! Answers on a postcard please…
